About this place
A thick black mapo sauce fills the bowl almost to the brim, paired with robust thick noodles that easily stand up to the heat. Hanare's most striking specialty is this overflowing black mapo noodle bowl. Ground meat and silky tofu pack the sauce with concentrated savoriness, laced with the tingling numbness of Sichuan peppercorns that lingers pleasantly after each bite. Once the noodles are gone, ladling the remaining rich sauce over rice turns it into a mapo rice bowl, an essential combination whenever you arrive with a serious appetite.
Standing alongside the punchy mapo noodles is the shop's other culinary anchor: rich tori paitan (white chicken broth) ramen. Diners can select either a salt or soy sauce base. Salt highlights the clean, rounded depth of the simmered chicken, while soy sauce introduces an aromatic, roasty savor. Opting for the special bowl turns the meal into an even more indulgent affair, adding a seasoned soft-boiled egg and 2 times the standard serving of both chicken and pork chashu.
The side dishes designed to accompany the noodles are just as rewarding. Choices include mouthwatering chicken—tender, poached chicken draped in a piquantly spiced sauce—and mini rice bowls of chashu finished with seared mayonnaise and a sweet-savory glaze. Both can be ordered as combination sets alongside the ramen. On the counter, condiments such as house-made green chili vinegar and chili pepper bomb let you adjust the acidity and heat midway through the bowl, keeping every mouthful dynamic to the end.
Tucked into Hashiba in Taito Ward, the shop maintains a calm, welcoming environment that makes dining solo completely comfortable. Operating with separate lunch and dinner services, the dining room offers both counter seating and tables, serving equally well for a daytime meal or a filling dinner after work. Payment is accepted in cash only, so having small bills or coins on hand ensures an effortless checkout.
